Hello R&R ,
Comments on our new life here:
The biggest adjustment has been our not being spanish speaking ('course this is our fault) Our biggest asset in this area has been our bi-lingual Tico friends who interpret for us.
First, we miss family and friends from the States. Second is the difficulty in finding items to which we have become accustomed and Claire misses the ease of one-stop shopping and quality merchandise.
Irritating would be the haphazard and seemingly unregulated, nonsensical way things are done here. An example would be having to go to San Jose to get a drivers' license, and then only on certain days.
Likewise, it taking three days to get money from the States to purchase our car; the problem being on the CR bank's side.
For the past ten years we had vacationed in CR and always said we would retire here, which we did in 2003. We have not regretted our decision and are in the process of building our retirement home.
Living here is not for everyone; for most who choose to relocate, there will be a period of adjustment (ongoing?). Why do we stay? We have a much better overall quality of life, are always meeting new people and making new friends with whom to joke about some of the previous glitches, our Tico friends treat us like family, and every day we learn something new or visit someplace new.
We have never seen "The Apprentice" and are not bombarded with stories of the lives of Paris Hilton or Jacko (smile)........that alone makes waiting in the lines worth it.
Best Regards ,
C&C in CR

Satellite TV available thru Direct TV here and there must be 10 video stores in Grecia. Of course, it took me three months to figure out that they were burning my copy while I waited! Comment: you can get almost anything here that you can get in the States. Sometimes it maybe hard to find or too expensive but almost everything is available. Don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
